How the compression works (honestly)
Balanced mode finds the photos inside the PDF, scales them down to about 150 dpi and re-saves them as JPEG. Text, vector drawings and fonts are not touched, so they stay crisp and selectable.
Strong mode re-renders every page as an image at screen resolution. It shrinks scanned documents a lot, but the text is no longer selectable. Use it only for scans or when you need the smallest file.
PDFs that contain mostly text are usually already small; if GustKit cannot make your file smaller, it tells you and keeps the original.
When to use it
Email attachments limited to 10–25 MB, job portals and government sites that reject large uploads, or phone scans that came out at 20 MB for three pages.
